A native of Belgium, Guido Maus is an international artist, now residing in the United States, where he is active as a painter and sculptor. Upon moving to New York City in 2000, he maintained a studio in Tribeca for several years, prior to relocating to Birmingham in 2004. With steel as the favorite medium for the artist's outdoor sculptures, the city and its symbiotic connection to that industry made it a fortuitous choice.

artist statement
In my works, I confront the abusive power of opinionative forces which bombard each of us from without and within. The structured influences of an organized societal existence wage war alongside the individual quest for truth and decency. Thus originates the journey toward the quintessential notion of the perfect Mensch, THE ideal human being.
Politics, education, religion, and history are but a few of the defining influences upon our lives, any or all of which may descend upon our psyches as we struggle to maintain our souls and our selves.
